Description
The Church of San Antonio Abate, in tha hamlet of Piediripa, has a simple gabled façade, with two doors and the emblem of the Vatican Basilica. While being reassembled in the 1980s the bell gable offered an unprecedented dedication to Mars (1st cent. BC - 1st cent. AD).
The interior is divided into two naves of different widths. The right nave has a baptismal font from 1585. At the first is a niche with the Virgin Mary with Saints Lawrence and Francis, a fresco from the 17th century. There is a copy of the image of the Our Lady of Sorrows of Norcia, along with two small 17th-century canvases (St. Eurasia, the Madonna of the Rosary). The left nave has three bays and is the older of the two. On the near wall are some frescoes from the 15th century, including a face of St. Christopher.
On the central altar is the Madonna del Carmelo with Saints Macario and Bordone, and above, St. Francesco. On the altar toward the entrance, occupied by a monumental modern Processional Cross, are Saints Emidio and Eutizio ( mural paintings from the 18th cent.), invoked against earthquakes and droughts.
